The Chase Ft Jade Castrinos is out now!
This cinematic alt-Indie requiem has been sitting on my hard drive for some time now, and I’m very happy to finally get it out there in the world today.
This is the second instalment of the emerging The Denizen Hum project, which is more collaborative in nature than previous work. The darker themes explored in the track are countered by the ethereal vocals of my beautiful friend Jade Castrinos, of Echo in the Canyon and Edward Sharpe & The Magnetic Zeros fame.

The wicked cover art here was taken on a windy night at Bolehills in Sheffield just a couple of weeks back by the ever brilliant Emma , and It wasn’t til we checked the shot after that the chilling face reflected back in my car bonnet became apparent…
It perhaps feels a little disingenuous to call The Chase “Brand new” as in reality it was written several years back. I tend to shy away from applying specific narratives to the meaning of the lyrics, but I was a year into my journey of recovery after a pretty savage run of self-destruction, and a new world view was still coming into focus. Counting the cost in the dark before the dawn of surrender was a big theme at the time. Jade sang it with me one night in a converted chicken coup in Nantucket that I was lucky to be in. I might have to unpack that another time. Her usual velvet tones were a little hoarse after over-applying her talent on a previous project, but somehow that just added to the vibe. I then took it back to Lockhart, Tx where I got to finish it off with the help of Danny Reisch and other friends in his amazing studio. It still smelled fresh back then, but various other detours delayed its arrival into your ears until today. Nevertheless, it’s still very much a new release!
I sometimes wonder if songs lose potency the longer they are sat on, or perhaps I should hold off even longer until I’ve figured out a TikTok dance for it, as we’re told we must, but it’s been long enough now that I’ve decided that it’s just better out there than sitting on a dusty hard drive where it can’t reach anyone at all. I’m glad to report however, that one of the best DJs in the world Nic Harcourt has just given this one a good sniff and deemed it fit to be selected as “Fresh squeezed track of the Day “ on LA’s 88.5fm today and it was really cool to hear it riding the airwaves with the rising of the Sun in Los Angeles this morning. A video will also be coming soon. I won’t be dancing in it, but I will be looking all brooding & moody I expect.
